In this special July 4th edition of Wordy Wednesday, we explore the meaning of freedom. Today in particular, you might define freedom as “absence of subjection to foreign domination or despotic government.” But the concept of freedom is much broader than a simple political meaning. At its core, freedom is “exemption from external control or interference; the power to determine action without restraint.”
While you spend time celebrating the freedom of our country, remember too and be grateful for the freedom you have from restraints of all kinds. Celebrate your freedom from addiction or disease. Celebrate your freedom to love who you want and say what you think. Celebrate a life lived free from fear and worry. Freedom isn’t just something to be glad for one day of the year. We should thank our lucky stars and stripes for every freedom we have, daily.
Happy Fourth of July!
