“My Wording Needs Work”
You’ve got the plot down, but the words just don’t seem right yet. Somehow, it doesn’t flow, doesn’t sing, doesn’t sound like you yet.
This is where a line edit from Jeanette the Writer will help.
As a freelance line editor, I will examine multiple aspects of your manuscript, aiming to . . .

-
Convey Clarity: I may reorder sections, paragraphs, or sentences for better clarity, stronger impact, and increased tension.
-
Focus on Flow: Readers want a smooth reading experience, which may mean changing some wording or sentence structures.
-
Perfect Pacing: How fast the scene feels depends a lot on the writing; I would focus on matching the scene with the necessary pacing.
-
Manipulate Mood: I might change word choice to affect the mood and tone within a scene or book.
-
Clip & Compose: Overly wordy scenes often benefit from some pruning, while sparse moments may need aid with additional description or action.
-
Add Volume to Voice: You have a unique way of writing that is like no one else, something I would identify, tease out, and enhance.
That’s a lot, and now you may be wondering . . .

What Is the Line Editing Process?
First, you’ll need a cup of sugar and two eggs . . . JK, first you’ll need a completed manuscript. I only accept manuscripts that have been through developmental editing (big-picture stuff) either through self-editing or with a professional editor. I work on genres including fantasy, science fiction, historical, literary, romance, memoir, and nonfiction (please no horror, poetry, or picture books).
Once we connect, I will want to see the five “best” (where you feel most confident in the writing) and five “worst” (where you feel least confident in the writing) pages from your manuscript. Reviewing these will help me determine your:
-
Scope of work (what and how much I will do to the manuscript)
-
Timeline (how long it will take)
-
Investment (generally priced per word)
If we decide to work together, we’ll start with a simple contract and a down payment to get you on the schedule.
From there, the process looks like this:
-
You send me the manuscript
-
I read through the text fully before editing to capture your voice
-
I perform a single pass through the manuscript, leaving changes and comments
-
You receive the manuscript back to make any additional changes or keep writing
It’s that simple!
